Organizing Pastor and Spiritual Entrepreneur: Rev. Nicole Lamarche is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ who believes that the public expression of Christianity has distorted the radically inclusive message of the Gospel. She is an advocate for marriage equality, stemming climate change and was a member of the Interfaith Tent at Occupy Oakland. Currently, she is involved in the #Blacklivesmatter movement in San Jose. Nicole earned a BA from the University of Arizona and a M.Div. and MA from the Pacific School of Religion at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. In 2003, she won the title of Miss California and went on to earn Fourth Runner-up at Miss America. Nicole was ordained in 2005 and began serving as a Lilly Endowed Pastoral Resident at Wellesley Congregational Church. In the summer of 2007 she started as pastor of Cotuit Federated Church on Cape Cod, where she served for three years. She left in October of 2010 to follow the call to start a new church in Northern California. Nicole, her husband Jeremy and her daughter Eliza have fallen in love with the greater San Jose area. After years of research, study, fundraising, prayer, support from the Congregational Church of San Mateo and hard work, the vision of a radically inclusive, deeply spiritual, unapologetically progressive, theologically diverse church is finally coming alive! In March 2013 Silicon Valley Progressive Faith Community introduced itself to the South Bay with a progressive Easter egg hunt focused on sharing, generosity and equality, where hundreds and hundreds were touched with our message of extravagant welcome! In January of 2014, we began gathering together publicly and we are grateful for each new person who wants to join and share our vision of a faith community rooted in love!
President: Brian Haberly is a Senior Paralegal and a community activist who volunteers many hours in service to local chapters of national environmental organizations like the Sierra Club and 350.org to battle Climate Change and to ensure a sustainable future. He enjoys hiking, photography, watching Major League Soccer, and attending concerts. He has organized three different Toastmasters clubs over the years to help fellow employees develop their communication and leadership skills, and to foster a greater sense of community. He has lead two different “Green Teams” in his business places to encourage more environmentally friendly practices by employers and employees. He grew up in Southern California, lived in the Northwest for nearly 20 years, and then returned to Northern California in 2011. He finds that being out in nature is one of the best ways to renew his spirit, and it reminds him that we are all interconnected and that all of us have a role to play if we are to save this fragile planet we share.
Vice President: Deb St. Julien is a Nurse Practitioner and a person whose life is consumed by the spiritual. She has always felt somehow “connected” to something greater than herself. She holds that a spiritual path will lead us to full acceptance of ourselves and others; encourage us to build community; create in us a desire to work toward a society where all have equal rights and access to the fundamental necessities of housing, food, health care and education; and to live consciously with regard to our impact on the earth. She has volunteered for over a decade with a local Methodist combined youth group (Joint Youth Ministry) in leadership support, as a small group leader, and a mentor. She volunteers at a local free clinic sponsored by the Rotary Club. She feels fortunate to have shared over 30 years in a relational and parenting journey with her life partner Gary Coffrin. They have raised two amazing daughters, one living in NYC and one local. Her loves include: 1. Science (BA in biology, BS in nursing, MS in nursing and women’s health, post-master’s certification in Family Medicine). 2. Hiking. 3. Contemplative prayer. 4. Poetry. 5. God. 6. Family & friends.
Friendraiser: Deb Kramer is a communications and event manager who consults with nonprofits and small businesses to grow and to host successful events. She has worked in the education, recycling, energy, space and software industries as a trainer, writer, website developer, event manager, and project manager. Her spiritual path is along the lines of the Star Wars “force”, where everything is connected through energy. She lives in San Carlos, where she is active in the local community as a fundraiser, library volunteer, and middle school science and math tutor. She enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends hiking, backpacking, and cooking.
Secretary: Kevin Haley is an engineer first and became a manager at Intel and is now an environmental entrepreneur putting some cool technology to work cleaning up our air. He grew up in the Pacific Northwest then came to California to seek his fortune which he found in his wife and subsequently three (now all grown up) kids. He lives in downtown San Jose, loves watching the city grow and is excited to help our becoming faith community grow with it!
